ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday lashed out at Pepco, saying the government was facing a tremendous amount of criticism due to the power company’s inefficiency.
Chairing the Private Power Infrastructure’s board meeting, he said investors in rental power plants had been scared away by political interference.
He added that gas load shedding had forced a 750 Mega Watt power plant to shut down in Punjab, adding to the province’s electricity woes.
Raja Pervez Ashraf revealed that the country was facing an electricity shortfall of between 2,500 and 3,000 MWs.
He informed the meeting that the government was doing its best to address the situation and that efforts were underway to generate 800 MWs of electricity from other sources by April 2010. — DawnNews
