LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said the province will not back out on its stance regarding the water issue.
During the Punjab Assembly session, Sharif said the province will not give up its constitutional right and will not spare even a single drop of water from its share.
Shahbaz Sharif said he had spoken to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday and informed him about the province’s reservations regarding the Indus River System Authority (Irsa).
He informed the assembly that Prime Minister Gilani had appointed the federal finance minister to resolve the matter.
Shahbaz Sharif said conflict with other provinces over the water issue is easy but it is not a long-term or sensible approach.
He said unity is important for Pakistan’s prosperity and a quarrel would only hurt the federation. — DawnNews
