MQM-Haqiqi contacts government

KARACHI: The Mohajir Qaumi Movement, better known as MQM-Haqiqi, has formally approached the government complaining about the killing of its workers in Karachi and in other parts of the country.

The MQM-Haqiqi is the main rival faction of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

A three-member delegation of MQM-Haqiqi, led by its vice chairman Younas Khan, met with top officials at the interior ministry.

The delegation presented the ministry’s officials with a list of MQM-Haqiqi workers who were allegedly targeted.

According to the list more then 154 workers of their party have been killed.

The delegation said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement led by Altaf Hussain was behind the killing of their workers.

Altaf Hussian appeals for calm after terror attack

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Chief Altaf Hussain on Monday strongly condemned the attack on the main procession of the Ashura near Light House in Karachi.

Talking to a private television channel via telephone from London, Altaf Hussain appealed to the people to remain peaceful and maintain unity.

He also appealed to the masses to keep a vigilant eye on strangers and miscreants in their respective areas in the city.

The MQM chief called upon the Sindh Government to take concrete measures to foil attempts to disturb the peace of the city.

Altaf Hussain called upon people to maintain inter-faith harmony among them and prove their unity.

He also condoled with the families of the people who died in the blast and prayed for their departed souls and to grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the loss.—APP

Biden played key-role in Musharraf’s uniform doffing: Gilani

KARACHI: Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the US drone attacks in Fata was not permitted and hoped that with the change in leadership in US, the policy also might change.

Talking to media on the sidelines of the handing over of logistic ship to Pakistan Navy at Karachi Shipyard here, PM said that Joe Biden has been pro-Pakistan and he had played a key-role in the restoration of democracy in Pakistan besides doffing off the uniform of former President Musharraf and added this was not done by us or any other party. He further said, “Pakistan is a sovereign country and permission for US drone attacks could not be given and we are seeking support of other countries also against these attacks, as the miscreants slip nearer.”

The prime minister said, “Rahman Malik has gone to London with my permission to meet Altaf Hussain, who is our ally and with us.” Regarding high prices, he said that the whole world was in the grip of recession, which has hit Pakistan also. He said that we have got a mandate for five years and the problems could not be solved in eight months. Regarding lawyers’ movement, he said that the lawyers and N-League’s movement for the restoration of deposed judges was their own affair, we have no objection. He said that People’s party offered sacrifices most for the restoration of judiciary. He said that PPP was not opposed to Local Government system and intended to make it more effective fo which actions would be taken. He said that Z. A. Bhutto was a victim of judicial murder and an investigation into it was imperative. He said, “We are a strong nation and know how to defend our country.”

Pak, India must work together to fight terrorism: Rehman Malik

LONDON: The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik has stressed the need for joint efforts by Pakistan and India to fight terrorism and said that his country is willing to co-operate with the neighbouring country fully in this regard.

Addressing a joint news conference with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain here, Malik ruled out chances of a war between the two nuclear-armed countries and said the region desire peace and amity.

He pointed out that terrorism was causing harm to both Pakistan and India and said the two countries need to work together to overcome this menace. He expressed confidence that the present Government will be able to drive the country out of its present difficulties.

The Advisor, responding to a question, said all the political parties were united in fight against terrorism and extremism. He further said the coalition government of PML-N and PPP in Punjab is functioning normally although odd problem do arise which is common in any given coalition setup.

Speaking on the occasion, the MQM Chief said the people of Pakistan and India were not in favour of war and wanted to live in peace and harmony.

He said there is complete and full-fledged democracy in Pakistan and any attempts to cripple or damage it will be unacceptable. He emphasised on the continuation of a democratic process and said it is in the vital interest of Pakistan.

Political alliance necessary for country’s security: Altaf, Rehman Malik

LONDON: Interior advisor Rehman Malik called on Altaf Hussain in London and both held a press conference after their meeting here on Sunday.

Altaf Hussain on this occasion said that the country’s security is the first priority at the moment and we should take all the steps we can take for the security and survival of the country.

He said that the political alliance is necessary for the security of the country at the moment.

Advisor interior Rehman Malik said that I have come to Altaf Bhai to discuss important national and regional matters.

He said that the government executed full operation against terrorists and did not surrendered to them.

Rehman Malik said that the non-state actors and anti-country elements want to destabilize Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan and India do not want war as it is not the solution of any issue and a third party wants them to go to war.

Altaf greets Interior Advisor, Sindh CM

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Wednesday exchanged Eid greetings with Federal Advisor on Interior, Rehman Malik and Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah.

The MQM Chief telephoned the Interior Advisor and greeted him on Eid-ul-Azha and also other office bearers of Interior Ministry.

Altaf Hussain appreciated the Advisor’s efforts towards maintenance of law and order and measures taken for rooting out terrorism.

He also called Sindh CM, Qaim Ali Shah and exchanged greetings with him.

Those criticizing should bring back their money to Pakistan: Altaf Hussain

KARACHI: Chief of the Muttehadda Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain said that those persons who are criticizing the government on getting loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) should bring back their money from abroad to Pakistan.

The MQM chief, in his telephonic address to the gathering of the North Nazimabad Residents Committee here on Sunday, said that the country at the moment is passing through the worst economic crisis.

He advised the youth regarding the danger of Talibanization that this is the issue of their existence and they should make arrangement to protect themselves and their homes.

Altaf Hussain said that uneducated and armed Taliban have surrounded Karachi from all the four sides.

He asked the citizens to get arms for their defense along with the essential commodities.

He said that the MQM would soon launch a micro-finance bank which would give loans to the people.
